Brain Flukes and Panic Attacks: Our last full day in Costa Rica

This is what rejection looks like...

I think I must have contracted brain flukes.  Lord knows I have contracted a fair share of intestinal parasites as well, but that’s not the REAL issue here.

The real issue of the day:  WTF have I gotten myself into?

This dog is 100 % going to eat Bella when Bella latches onto her cheek like the little dummy that she is.  At the very least Tica Tammy is going to rip apart our house in an attempt to get back into the wild.  Apparently she has separation anxiety.  We went to the casino last night and left her home because we didn’t want to leave her outside the casino in the rain…  Good news:  She only scratched up the door a little bit.  Bad news:  She scratched up the door a little bit.

I need your votes, STAT people.  I have less than 24 hours to figure this out.

Option A:  Leave the dog in CR to an untimely death by motor vehicle or heart worms…

Option B:  Bring Tica Tammy home and suffer the consequences…

The following is a breakdown of my reoccurring panic attacks:

Worst case scenario 1:  I am the owner of 3 dogs and I get to enjoy my new single life when JS dumps me and my dawgs in a shack down by the reever.

Worst case scenario 2:  Tica Tammy eats Bella and I am the owner of 2 dogs again.

Worst case scenario 3:  Tica Tammy eats through my front door and escapes into the wild.

Best case scenario:  All three little queens live happily ever after (with Mamma in a shack down by the reever).

THIS IS A CRY FOR HELP PEOPLE!  I absolutely cannot decide which page to turn in this wacky Choose My Own Adventure.  I feel like I'm in just a little over my head here, strapped to a runaway train that's barreling toward it's eminent demise.  To summarize:  I am very calm.  VERY calm.  WOOSAH...

  1. * your relationship to your fiance is more important than any dog, is it really at risk?;
    * will Tica like the cold winters and hellish summers of TX?
    * will Tica like to give up her freedom of the streets to be a house dog? some are just wired for their freedom, I know it goes more for cats, but some dogs are too.
Ultimately this is your decision sweet cousin. Which ever you pit do not ever look back, just live with it and make it the best.
I love you and wish you the best

  2. Do not panic Abby!

First of all, we've all been there. I sometimes pretend like I don't see the various stray this or stray that. I carry around dog food and cat food in my car....I get it.

I really don't have a strong opinion either way, ultimately you are going to have to decide that but I do have a couple of thingss to share =)

Make sure its safe for your animals at home first unless you are willing to go to great lengths to keep them seperated for the time being

Make sure you are ready to spend the time and money to go to a trainer/behaviorist for help getting Tica acclimated to a very new way of life if she doesn't take to it right away.

Know that it does NOT make you a bad person nor should you feel guilty at all about leaving Tica behind if you have to. Go get her spayed and you will have done a huge favor for her.

On the flip side if you think you can manage the rest, go for it! You have a wonderful heart!

Don't worry JS will deal if you do decide to take her. They knew what they were getting themselves into when they signed up to deal with us ;0)

  4. Well as someone who recently lived this experience I can safely say DO IT! I would not be able to sleep at night if I had left Rusty to be shot by some stupid ass "rancher" in the Hill Country. However, Zoe is not quite as ruthless as Bella.... I think she can adjust. It won't be easy (read: I feel like I have a newborn with the amount of times I am woken up by wining from Rusty and have to get up at the butt crack of dawn on my vacation to let him out and clean up vomit) but I think so far it's been worth it. Now I must go to clean up the thick layer of slobber that has settled over my home...and my heart. Safe travels! Smooches!

  5. Well, that is a tough decision, everyone is doing it though :) Worst comes to worst, you can always find her a good home here should it not work out at yours. Good luck with your decision making process! - luv Candi
